Children's Program
About the Program
We at Kinokawa ryu Aikido feel we have a responsibility not only to your child, but to everyone your child interacts with. This means we don't simply teach and drill techniques into your child which s/he can use to injure others. We don't believe in training robots who go into the world and hurt people. Aikido is a martial art specifically conceived to help the world, and to bring people to a higher level of consciousness.

We take the training of every student, especially children, very seriously. Studying Aikido is not an easy path, so we begin with very simple exercises and encourage each child to grow at their own pace. Our program is designed to safely lead your child from their first day through to training as an adult. Together with your involvement and guidance outside of our program, you will see your child become more focused, more relaxed, and happier.

We will give your child a thorough grounding in the martial art of Aikido, but we will do so responsibly. Your child will be taught and tested on techniques which bring the mind to focus, steadiness and calmness, but there will be little emphasis in the early years on what you might consider self-defense technique. As s/he grows in maturity, movements and technique with a more direct link to self-defense are introduced and developed.
Acceptance and Placement of Children
Generally, children are accepted at age 5, and anyone under 15 will be placed in our children's classes. Exceptions are made for exceptional children; Some children under 5 may be accepted, and some persons under 15 may train as adults. We do require an interview attended by the child and the parents, and we may choose to decline your child.
New Students
We require pre-payment of the first three months of dues. After the third month, dues may be paid month-to-month; We do not require contracts. New students will need to purchase a training uniform, (unless they already have a plain white, judo-style uniform.)
Training Dues
Dues for each child: $65/month, or $780/year (The 13th month is free with annual payments.)
Discounts: Our discounts are based on the number of people from your household who are training. The first person pays the full rate, and then each additional person receives a $15 discount.
Examples: If there is an adult from the household training, then dues for each child are $50/month. If there are no adults training, then dues for the first child are $65/month, and dues for each additional child are $50/month.
